Earth is a place we call home.It is a beautiful home to you and I, along with billion  of others. According to U.S. Census Bureau, the world population is expected to reach 8 billion people in 2023 . You can find out more about the whole population at the moment. The Earth is also the home with all the  fascinating plants and animals. All this while, the earth has provided us with shelter, air, water, food and everything we need to sustain our lives.
Yet, we fail to repay its kindness. There are billion of human beings, but we could not take care of our earth . Our earth needs to be protected from all the pollution and deforestation. That is the reason behind this celebration of the Earth Day.  In 1970, as you have read from here, a senator from Wisconsin, America had started this national day to raise awareness about the environmental issue. Today, it is celebrated globally in over 193 countries.

Everyday humans make decision that affect the environment. Some of the decisions lead to the earth's destruction. Because of some selfish decision and desire, the world has been polluted. The pollution has been affecting the lives of the people and other creatures. Look around you. What do you see? The river water is not crystal clear anymore. Domestic and industrial waste are floating freely in the river. Both degradable and non-degradable. Some throw it away to the ocean. Little did they they know the fish, sea turtles and other marines creatures become entangled in plastic debris.   Some drains are clogged with rubbish that we humans create. There is a haze in the sky , containing billions of tiny dangerous particles. The mass deforestation destroys the habitat  of the plants and animals.  The cities expand rapidly with concrete skyscrapers  decorating the sky. We are happy that we live in the fast-paced world. But the world is crying. Humans have cut down the trees. The noise from the bustling big cities are deafening. The earth is getting destructed by the harmful smoke and gases from our homes, vehicles and factories.

The earth is a spectacular place to live in. However, its natural  beauty will soon fade away if we take the environment for granted. We continue to pollute it,  there will be no longer a beautiful world for the future generations to live in. We should seek for solutions, not pollution. So, April 22, 2020 is an important day for all of us to demonstrate that we care for the earth. It is time for a big chance. The theme for 2020 Earth Day is Climate Action. Climate change is one the biggest environmental concern for the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. It is a challenge to face the climate crisis. So, let's make this year 2020 Earth Day is a historic one.
